Starting a new initiative is always an adventure: will people turn up? Will it be a success? Sigrid Gramlinger, Joomla's Production Department Coordinator, started the New to Joomla sessions a couple of months ago, to welcome new people and help them find their way in the Joomla Community. How is this going, and how can you join? Read all about it!

Thanks for joining us in this interview, Sigrid! As the Production Department Coordinator, you started the New to the Joomla Community sessions. Why?

As an active member of the Joomla community I noticed that people join the communication channel in Mattermost and they did not really know where to go. There were questions about how to become a member of the community and where to find people.

Tassos is a Greek first name which, thanks to the hard work of a Joomla user, has become a well-known brand of extensions in the community.
Tassos Marinos now leads a company which provides a number of useful extensions ( some say essential ) in free or pro versions, and always with the same desire to be useful to Joomla users.
Let's take a look at the origins of this project, and find out who the man behind the developer is.

Many Joomla users are familiar with your extensions, but we don't really know much about you. Can you give us a quick introduction?

I was born and live in Kos, Greece. I’m married and have a wonderful 2-year-old daughter who keeps me on my toes. In my free time, I enjoy playing the guitar, swimming in the beautiful sea surrounding our island, reading books across various genres, and watching a lot of YouTube, which keeps me entertained and informed.

You may have seen them in the backend of your Joomla 4 or 5 website: Guided Tours, the ultimate way to get familiarized with your Joomla website. And while Joomla 5 keeps getting better (thanks to our awesome developers), so does Joomla's Little Helper, aka the Guided Tours!

What is a Guided Tour?

A guided tour in simplest terms, shows you around. In Joomla, it can show you around, like explaining the dashboard or new features in a release. It can also guide you through creating/maintaining content on a website, including using a third-party extension. 

This guide for beginners simply explains what the different image file formats are and how to properly use them on your website.

Whatever the theme of websites, images are omnipresent: from the logo to photos of the products or the team members, images are found absolutly everywhere. We've used to add images in our websites since decades but are we doing it right? This question may seems weird for many of us but based on what I observe in my clients' websites, it's not a so stupid question.

When you want to present your content with tabs, sliders, or multiple pages with navigation, you could head over to the Joomla Extensions Directory… but you don't need to. The functionality is built right into the core, super easy to use!

Australian Joomla enthusiasts last gathered in person for JoomlaDay Australia in August 2019 in Brisbane, Queensland. Plans were afoot for JoomlaDay in Melbourne in 2020, but— Well, we know how that year and the following panned out!

The CloudFest Hackathon is an annual event in Rust (Germany) that brings together developers, designers, and open source enthusiasts from around the world.
