Whew! We made it

Whew! We made it

Over the last few months we have been working on a surprise birthday party for a long time Danico supporter.  There was a fear from all that were involved that she would put the pieces together.  Fortunately for us she did not!  We were able to not only surprise her with local friends and family but also with some out of town guests.

"I was afraid to text her back, I didn't want to slip up"
We appreciate all of the guests who worked so hard at keeping this a secret.  Many who were unable to make it even delayed delivery of their gifts just in case it in someway would ruin the surprise.

"Everything looks like her"
We were told several times by both guests and guest of honor herself how much the decorations and cake looked like something she would have put together herself.  It was great to hear as our goal was to make the event about her.  Gina at the Chicago Marriott Northwest worked with us to get the right size room and table linens to go with our centerpieces.

"Those aren't real are they?"b2ap3_thumbnail_centerpiece-200.jpg
Much to our surprise, we were asked a few times if our silk flower centerpiece arrangements were real.  We used all silk flowers mixing green hydrangeas, yellow hydrangeas, orange dahlias and pink dahlias.  We placed them in tall vases with sand and pebbles.  In addition to the centerpieces we added floor height balloons around the room - what's a birthday party without balloons?!

Straying slightly from the traditional party activities we worked with Bottle and Bottega of Glen Ellyn to offer painting for some of the guests.  There was hesitation on the part of the client when this was suggested as they'd never heard of nor experienced it this type of activity themselves.  The ladies enjoyed it so much they are thinking about doing it again.

"The cake is gorgeous, it's so light and refreshing"
For this occasion, we felt the cake had to be as special as the recipient.  We were thrilled when Joanna at Oak Mill Bakery in Prospect Heights was able to help us create the perfect cake for this event.  The orange roses and green hydrangea flowers with gold ribbons, beads and other accents complemented our centerpieces perfectly.  The alternating yellow and chocolate cake with fresh strawberries, fresh peaches, whipped cream and custard filling covered in buttercream frosting was a perfect balance of sweetness and lightness.

The event was awesome and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who helped us make this event great.
Thank you to…
  • Gina, Roberto, Sharon and the rest of the team over at the Chicago Marriott Northwest in Hoffman Estates for all of your help, the beautiful room and being so accommodating.
  • Lynn, Natalie and Megan from Bottle and Bottega Glen Ellyn, who gave the guests the opportunity to create their own "masterpieces" to take home.
  • Joanna and the Oak Mill Bakery Arlington Heights team for the fantastic looking and delicious tasting cake that was so good there were no leftovers.
  • KB for the right music, at the right time that got people dancing
