A little more than a year ago, I wrote about Getting Out of My Own Way, and as I sat down to write the next installment of the time is money post, I realized how applicable that post is. Specifically, taking a break. Recently, I felt like I was a hamster on it wheel. I took a few moments to breath, channelling what little yoga I could remember, and walked away from my desk. I was rewarded with the lead I needed to move forward. There's a saying about, working smarter, not harder and I've thought about how to do that for, and with my clients.

Expanding on the thought of taking breaks, I recently read about how some of the most successful people take shorter vacations more often. This is contrary to what I'd gotten used where I dreaded vacations. Not because I didn't want time off but dreaded coming back where it took days, sometimes weeks to catch up. However, if they are shorter and more often, maybe I won't have to dread them some much. The bonus is that it would give me something to look forward to that is not so far off and maybe would keep my batteries charged.

I don't know about you, but when I have something to look forward to. This is great for keeping creativity going and best of all … getting this done. As we know getting things done, leads to success. This time of year, it is not hard to think about combining short vacations into your routine with the holidays coming up, but why wait until fourth quarter for short vacations. Here's an idea, why not add to your business goals and personal resolutions for 2014 to take more vacations.
