Ms. Monopoly is an advocate whose mission is to invest in female entrepreneurs

Something a little different.

Today Hasbro announced the release of Ms. Monopoly.  A new version of the beloved Monopoly game.  In this game, female players start off with Monopoly money than their male counterparts, and even are awarded more when passing, 'Go'.  Another change is that instead of collecting properties, you collect inventions made by women.  A cool idea!

Did you know that a female was behind the original concept?  Lizzie Phillips, is widely credited with developing the game's basic premise in 1904, under the title "Landlord's Game."

Some of the familiar player tokens have been replaced.  Gone is the battleship and race car (dang).  New is the jet and watch. The game also gets a new cover.  Some of the inventions that you can collect are: Wifi, chocolate chip cookies, bulletproof vests, and computer compiler.

"We want to recognize and celebrate the many contributions women have made to our society and continue to make on a daily basis"

Jen Boswinkel, senior director of global brand strategy and marketing at Hasbro

The titular character, Ms. Monopoly is described as a "self-made investment guru" and the niece of Mr. Monopoly.

Young female inventors were awarded REAL money, approximately $20,580, in lieu of Monopoly winnings.  The video on the right introduces you to some of them and their work, along with their reactions as they open the game finding cash instead of Monopoly money.

The game goes on sale later this month but you can pre-order from your favorite vendor.
