The 2nd Wednesday of each month, is the JUGCN or Joomla! User Group Chicago North meeting. These meetings are hosting by me for the local Joomla! community. Last Wednesday was the first for 2020. The topic was rather fitting as it was, Web Trends for 2020. Additionally, I covered implementing SEO for Joomla! sites.

2020 Web Design Trends

After reviewing several sources, I combined into a list of "favorite" trends and shared them with the group. One of the trends that I've not really embraced is Dark Mode. I have committed to giving it a try, however as a classes wearing old developer (I'll let you know how it goes). Another trend that stands out to me is, is Micro Animation. I think this is cool. If you have not heard of Micro Animation, this is the small animation or movements on a site. They are cool looking but they need to not cause distraction from the key message(s).

Implementing SEO in Joomla!

Often I hear colleagues and clients say they don't know how to implement SEO in Joomla! A great source for learning about SEO is moz.com. They have a beginner's guide that is easy to learn from. When you are learning SEO for your Joomla site, joomlaseo.com it my go-to. The site is from the author of Joomla! 3 SEO and Performance book, Simon Kloostra. He is also a guest blogger on Joomla.org, SEMrush and more.

Everyone is welcome to join the monthly JUGCN meeting where we cover Joomla, Marketing and Business topics inspired and requested by the JUGCNers. With the meetings available both online and in-person, there are local participants as well as those from far away. All skill levels and interests are welcome.
