Easy RSForms! Pro Dropdown List Validation Solution

One of our favorite extensions is RSForms! Pro. We use it a lot! Awhile ago we created a form for one of our clients with textboxes, dropdown lists, etc and connected it with a RSEvents! Pro event.

Then the client asked that one of the dropdown lists be required. Ok, so change the validation from no to yes. All done, right?

Well, not quite.

Because we'd set a value of NotSet|Select One, the validation was not being triggered. We're adept at adding PHP scripts, Javascript and all sorts of overrides, but we were short on time and decided to be "lazy" and ask RSJoomla Support of help.

I'm glad we did.

Here's the solution received from RSJoomla Support:

There's a simpler way to do this, since your dropdown items have already been setup with the "pipeline" symbol (value|label), you can simply remove the NotSet value. If your dropdown is required, it will invalidate if the first selection has no actual value.

For example items (notice first item has no value):

|Please select
one|cat
two|dog
three|parrot

Definitely much simpler and quicker than the solution we'd have created. RSJoomla Support saves the day (again!).

Thanks RSJoomla Support!
